The Vitamin and Mineral Tea

Here at Sunshine Herbs we have a few teas that we make right here in the store. The Vitamin and Mineral tea was created because the herbs that make it up are loaded with valuable vitamins and minerals that they have pulled up from the ground and transmuted so that our bodies can benefit from these highly absorbable nutrients.

The balance between these plants creates the flavor profile unique to this blend. It has the tart tang of Hibiscus paired with the lemony accents that Lemon Balm brings to any tea. Alfalfa and Nettles give this tea its “green” and with the accompaniment of both the mints you get a really nice cooling finish that leaves you feeling satisfied and calm.

Alfalfa:

This “weed” is contains a superior amount of minerals and vitamins such as biotin, calcium, folic acid, iron, magnesium, potassium and Vitamins E, C and K. This hearty plant is super high in protein, especially when dried. It’s deep reaching roots is what allows it to absorb all of these wonderful nutrients that, when drank as a tea are highly absorbable and usable for the body.

Hibiscus:
This attractive flower is high in Vitamin C, which can be soothing to the skin and help with the common cold. There are anti-inflammatory and cardio protective properties for heart health and reducing blood pressure. As a natural diuretic, it can increase the urine flow which has a gentle cleansing effect on the kidneys. Its dark color means that Hibiscus is high in antioxidants. It is also contains protein and omega 3’s. Hibiscus contains several B Vitamins and is rich in minerals such as Copper, Zinc and Iron.

Lemongrass:

Nutritionally, lemongrass is a good source of vitamins A and C, folate, folic acid, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and manganese. It also has minute traces of B vitamins. Lemongrass promotes healthy digestion. It has antiseptic compounds that effectively kill bad bacteria and parasites in the digestive tract and repopulate the good bacteria in the colon. We could write anthologies about the wonders of Lemongrass. Some of its uses include, stress reducing and anti-depressive qualities, cancer fighting, cold and flu and many others. This is a wonderfully versatile herb that makes a tasty tea in most anything it is added to.

Nettle:

The first thing to say about Nettles is that it is very high in iron and many midwives will recommend it for their pregnant mamas when they need that boost. This nutritive herb is more of a food than a medicine because it works to nourish and tone through nutrition. It is commonly used to treat osteoarthritis, hay fever, allergies and to ease pain. It also contains Magnesium, Phosphorus, Calcium and Potassium as well as trace amounts of Zinc.

Oatstraw:

Oat straw, taken as a tea or extract, is used by herbalists as a tonic to fend off depression. Oat straw is commonly used in traditional and herbal medicine to nourish and strengthen the central nervous system. It is also considered a stimulant that homeopaths will use to help treat liver infections and arthritis. This mineral rich herb contains: Selenium, Sodium, Calcium, Chromium, Iron, Phosphorus and Magnesium with low amounts of Vitamins K and E.

Peppermint:

This simple and wonderful digestive aid has a cooling action within the body. It is anti-inflammatory and a stimulant as well. This is interesting because it can also be a calming herb. This is one of the most widely used herbs in the world. It contains niacin, phosphorus and zinc and is a very good source of dietary fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Folate, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.

Shavegrass/Horsetail:

This humble plant has so many health benefits. Boosting immunity and anti-inflammatory properties make it a great tea for healing and toning the body. It is great for bones and strengthening the skeletal structure which means that your hair and skin benefit too.

Spearmint:

Spearmint is Peppermint’s milder cousin according to Dr.Christopher. It is a great herb for the very young or old because of its gentler action. As a diuretic it can be very beneficial to the kidneys (inflammation of) and bladder. It can soothe the nerves and has a pleasant taste.

By delving into the nutritional profile of these herbs it is easy to see why they work so well together. This complete combination is so chock full of goodness and flavor it’s no wonder why this has become a favorite among our employees and customers alike.
